I’m not a lawyer, but to me it speaks of the lack of resources the government can spare on potentially difficult/costly to prosecute cases. There is plenty of easy money to be made on other marijuana consumers/growers and this guy got such a light punishment only because their resources were better spent pressuring other people to take fines and probation.
I have been disabled since a failed fusion on my spine was performed on 09/16/2006. I still to this day have instability and I refuse to let them cut me open again. They attempted to fuse levels L5-S1. I take so many pain medications. From Morphine orally to the Fentanyl patch, Lidoderm patches, Neurontin, Fiorinal, Phenergan rectal suppositories for when I am nauseous, Cymbalta, clonazepam, and Zanaflex, all which makes me drowsy and I truly believe make me more unstable.I may have forgotten a couple of meds, I hope not. I have gotten in trouble twice with my physician for testing positive on my urine screens. Once in Oct. 2010, when my mother passed and recently, when I ran out of meds and a friend was kind enough to give me a small bit of medical grade marijuana. I smoked some of it and not only did it relieve my pain, but my appetite picked up, no nausea and was clear headed but in pain the next day. I used it until it was gone. I felt better those few days than I have in years. I was happy. Not in a drug induced stupor. Being as I’m disabled and have no chance to be a productive member of society. I cannot stand or sit for long periods of time. I must use a walker wherever I go so that I don’t fall again. Isn’t there something that can be done to facilitate legalization in Texas? Will it take the millions like myself to present ourselves before a Committee and testify before whatever Judicial Party that would be willing to consider marijuana for pain relief meaning; less people being jailed for possession of marijuana. We can grow it, pay the taxes on it and that alone would decrease the Texas Jails and Prisons issues with overcrowding and thus keeping cells open to other avenues. My husband lost his job last July. He does not smoke. I pay anywhere from $650.00-$750.00/month. As we have used my husbands retirement and we are living off of very little. Out of the $1200.00 I get, I pay Medicare A, B & C which is redundant as Medicare does not pay for pain or behavioral health medication. What a joke! Of course there are doctors, mine included who are stepping away from Medicare. This hurts me more. One issue at a time though. Why can’t we, the people be able to decide whether we want to pay for Marijuana taxes to the State so that we don’t have to continue taking drugs that are harmful to your liver and kidneys. I am scared. Can someone please write back to me so that I may help if possible. I would greatly appreciate it. God Bless those who help others. Think of all the revenue Texas could bring into our schools, road repair, etc. Just think, it’s not for the high. It’s for the relief we will get without killing ourselves slowly.
