one of the first things we need to do to reform the War on Drugs is throw away the word "drug" to describe these substances. "Drug" is a word that carries too much political baggage, and besides, using one politically-framed word to describe these substances is like calling all ocean life "fish." This is something only stupid people do. We need to be better than this.

The term that more accurately describes these substances is "secondary metabolites."

Here is a new classification system that corrects the failures of the Controlled Substances Act:
CLASSIFICATION OF SECONDARY METABOLITES

CLASS ONE- animal/ human metabolites (naturally produced and contained).
Regulation type: none

CLASS TWO- botanical metabolites (naturally produced and contained).
Regulation type:
1-private use: none
2-commercial use: registration, tax I.D., standard
regulations for business transactions,
product safety, etc.

CLASS THREE- metabolites (including alcohol) extracted through chemical processes
Regulation types:
type: 1-age restriction
type: 2-by prescription only
type: 3-general commercial use: registration, tax I.D., standard
regulations for business transactions,
product safety, etc.
type: 4-extracted metabolite without a type definition
(unknown)

I wrote this so anyone could copy and paste as a letter to one's representative.

Our American season is one of political oppression under the War on Drugs. Individual lives are being ruined, families broken apart, property seized, the unwanted and the mentally ill incarcerated, while liberty is slowly and deliberately suffocated. All because of a series of bad ideas that result in the War on Drugs.

The 1969 Controlled Substances Act is a body of distorted scientific data that has no Constitutionally reasonable basis. Yet, it persists still to this day.

The government will not correct itself anytime soon. Correction is the job of We The People, and We must be heard.

I'm in agreement that the site is in need of some help with regards to user experience. It's difficult at best to navigate and post. Please supply a help document or something to help us use this site.

We have a lot of work to do in order to turn this Cannabis Prohibition thing around here in Texas and throughout the nation.

Thanks!

I really never knew what NORML was, it was something I had heard about here and there but nothing in detail. So finally I decided to look it up and now here I am at the beginning of my new journey to help in the fight. I hope to get more involved and more educated! I do have to agree that this site is a bit hard to navigate and all I can do is post a comment. Keep up the good fight and now you are +1 more!

Hey, the link on his page is still broken. If you click on his picture, it comes up with a 404 error. Kind of hard to vote for him.

I understand your desire to open communication on this site, but it is very difficult to navigate. From what I can tell, an average user can only comment on posts by the admin. Maybe you can give us a lesson if I'm wrong (or correct it so users can post too).

Anyway, I want to share that if you have any doubt why to work for reform, then remember those of us who are suffering with diseases that can benefit from cannabis. It's almost 3 in the morning and I haven't slept because of the nausea from oral chemo or the deep bone pain from scar tissue that is building up inside them. My disease is called myelofibrosis and based on the law of averages, I have about a year left to live. I don't plan to be average anymore.

I want to have access to all my options. I'm mad as hell that I live in a state where anything that is in a pill is okay, but if I want to grow my own medicine, I'm a criminal. I haven't smoked in over 27 years, but I should be able if I choose to do so. I'm fighting with everything I've got left in me so that maybe my family members or friends will have the freedom some day if they need it. Please hang in there and keep up the good fight.

Got one of those new anti-bacterial resistant Staph infections that is running rampant across the country? Guess what, it seems THC has yet another use.

Study Suggests THC May Help Fight Bacteria

A new study by researchers in Britain and Italy suggests tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main substance found in marijuana, shows promise as an antibacterial agent against bacterias that are resistant to treatment with broad spectrum antibiotics such as penicillin and methicillin.

Experiments in the 1950s tested a host of marijuana compositions against skin and various infections. But, at that time, they had very little understanding of marijuana’s chemical makeup.

For the study, researchers examined the antibacterial activities of five common types of cannabinoids. All five proved effective against several common multi-resistant bacterial strains. However, researchers suggest nonpsychotropic cannabinoids may be more promising for eventual use.

Researchers are unsure how exactly cannabinoids work and if they would prove effective as systemic antibiotics, which would require more trials and research. But the compounds may be useful as a topical agent against meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (more commonly known as a “staph infection”), or MRSA infection, to prevent bacteria from colonizing the skin.

The study was led by Giovanni Appendino, of the University of the Eastern Piedmont, and published in The Journal of Natural Products
