Newsweek:Pot and the GOP-Is the party of ‘Just Say No’ morphing into the party of ‘Just Say Grow’?
October 26, 2010Happy Halloween and “Politicians on Pot”
October 31, 2010Nice couple of articles from the good people at the Huffington Post and Alternet about the fear-mongering the Anti-Prop 19 groups are using to scare people away from ending the unconstitutional prohibition of Cannabis in California. While this measure may not pass sadly, we can’t let that discourage us from working hard in our own state to reform the laws and re-legalize this plant. We will keep at it until the end of this unjust “War” on our family and friends. You can make a difference, let your elected representatives know that you want them to help end the senseless violence of the Drug War and persecution of so-called “dangerous criminals” who want nothing more than to live in peace.
Huffington Post:Prop 19 Opponents Veer Off Into Paranoia by Ryan Grim
“The proposition, which had been leading in the polls, is now trailing. Zaremberg didn’t immediately return a call requesting comment.
Of course, driving while impaired is and will remain illegal. Coming to work high would violate workplace policies except perhaps in Silicon Valley or the NBA.
“Imagine coming out of surgery, and the nurse caring for you was high, or having to work harder on your job to make up for a coworker who shows up high on pot,” says the Chamber ad. “It could happen in California if Proposition 19 passes.”
The ad goes on. “Employees would be allowed to come to work high, and employers would be unable to punish an employee for being high until after a workplace accident,” it cautions.
“It’s just stupid to suggest people could legally show up to work high,” said Michael Whitney, a spokesman for the Just Say Now campaign, which is backing the measure. “It’s no more of an issue than someone showing up at work drunk, and would be handled the same way.”
The language of the initiative is written to prevent employers from firing workers for smoking pot in their free time. If the proposition passes, according to the California Legislative Analyst’s Office, “employers would retain existing rights to address consumption of marijuana that impairs an employee’s job performance.””

Alternet: The Same Bigots Who Fought Gay Marriage Are Trying to Block Legal Pot — But There’s Hope for Prop. 19 by our friend Steve Elliot who admins the site tokeofthetown.com as well
“The news hasn’t all been encouraging this week for pot proponents, as at least two major polls show the anti-marijuana vote surging in the last days before the election.
But as pointed out by Yes On 19, the anti-marijuana stigma could be significantly throwing off live polling. After all, a lot of people are still uncomfortable telling strangers they are in favor of marijuana legalization.
Backing up this hypothesis is the huge divide between the level of support expressed for Prop 19 with two different methodologies — live interviews versus automated phone polling. Yes On 19 found that if an individual is responding only to a computer program, they are much more likely to express support for the initiative.
While recent live interviews showed 41 percent Yes and 46 percent No responses, automated interviews told a different story: 56 percent of respondents chose Yes with only 41 percent No”
