March Livestream: Texas NORML Updates
March 7, 2024Texas NORML Membership Drive in April!
April 1, 2024Beginning April 1, 2024, Texas NORML transitions to new leadership.
Executive Director Jax James will be stepping back into an advisory role as Betty Williams steps up to become the Interim Executive Director.
Other positions will be taking on new leadership as well, with Cindy Brennan replacing Stephen Carter as Secretary, and Brandon Collinsworth stepping up from officer to Membership Director. Stephen, who has been working in cannabis law reform since 2008, and with Texas NORML since 2018, will stay on in an operations capacity.
Betty has been working with Texas NORML for over nine years, getting her start as a table volunteer in 2014. During that time she learned the intricacies of how to table events and work with volunteers. She went on to become Volunteer Coordinator in 2017, and has since been organizing, training, and supporting volunteers for Texas NORML events.
Jax first began working on cannabis law reform by volunteering with Texas NORML in 2005. She would go on to serve as volunteer coordinator, legislative director, and deputy director. In 2015 she earned the role of Executive Director. Since then, she has also worked for NORML’s DC office as a state policy director for a year and a half. Jax now takes on an advisory role, focusing on tracking legislation and providing testimony at the state capitol.
“I’ve really loved every minute of it,” Jax says regarding her time working in cannabis law reform with Texas NORML. “I have learned a lot about myself, the people of Texas, and the political system during my time here. Thank you so much to everyone who has watched our livestreams, supported Texas NORML by donating, being a member, or purchasing and wearing our merch, those who have given testimony at the capital, participated in our action alerts, or have come to our advocacy training days. We have done a lot together over the years, but there’s still a lot of work to do here. It’s been a great 19 years and I’m looking forward to participating in a different way.”
