In 2015, the Texas Legislature passed the Texas Compassionate Use Program (TCUP), allowing those with intractable epilepsy to access low-thc medical cannabis to treat their seizures. Rep. Lucio III plans to file an amendment that will will make a small change, protecting doctors and bringing our state law in line with federal requirements. The special session moves quickly so, please take action now!
Ask your representative to support Rep. Lucio III’s amendment to protect doctors!
Because of cannabis’ status as a Schedule I drug, cannabis cannot be “prescribed.” It can, however, be recommended, and patients can be formally certified by doctors through the state registry. This small change does not expand the program, it simply corrects an error and provides protection for participating doctors.
- Your support helps ensure marijuana consumers are represented in the political process and powers our movement to end prohibition once and for all. While the shot at this amendment may be difficult and the amendment itself is narrow, it will allow for the limited TCUP program to function. Prohibition never sleeps, so we must always look to create and never miss opportunities.Donate TODAY.Together, we WILL legalize marijuana in Texas. To join us in getting ready for the next phase of our mission, please review our Activist Training Guides and our Texas Marijuana Policy – Legislator Voting Record.
